Tavern Rooms, A Place to Entertain
A tavern room is a place to drink, eat and be merry!
In early times, the tavern room was used for many purposes. It was a place to gather to enjoy great food and entertainment.
If I had to pick one of my favorite rooms in an old house, it would have to be the tavern room. This room was used for entertaining your guests in early american times. I have visited many taverns in our travels throughout New England along with Virginia. The ambiance of a tavern room brings you back to colonial times. A tavern room was usually where everyone gather to socialize, eat and drink. One of our favorite taverns is the Kings Arm Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Today, tavern rooms are being reinvented in historic or replicating the tavern room in a reproduction home. It is a great area to gather with family and sit around tavern tables. Several tavern tables in the room create an ambiance of entertaining. Decorating a tavern room can consist of a sofa and wing back chairs.
Three key elements in a tavern room are the cage bar, tavern tables and upholstered furniture.
